The APS Processing Time Tracker

Open dataset · Reviewed July 2026 · Study Track

Ask five guides how long APS India takes and you get five answers, from three weeks to five months. This page holds both layers side by side: the ranges the guides publish, and the times applicants actually report. One is a promise. The other is data.

The APS certificate sits at the front of every Indian application to Germany, so its processing time is the number your whole plan hangs on. The problem is not that published guidance is wrong. It is that a corridor like "3 to 6 weeks" hides exactly the thing you need to plan around: how wide the tail really is, and when you are in it.

Published corridor
3-6 weeks
Where most current guides land. Several portals still cite 3-4 weeks as typical.
Widest claim
Up to 20 wks
The widest published corridor. Several guides put peak season at 6 to 12 weeks.

What the guides claim

These are the processing-time claims currently in circulation, checked in July 2026 and grouped by where they cluster. The upper bounds run from four weeks to twenty weeks, a factor of five between sources that all describe the same procedure. That spread is the whole reason this tracker exists.

3-4 weeksThe typical figure on large Indian study portals and several university blogs, outside peak season.
3-6 weeksThe corridor most counselling agencies and platform guides quote after payment and complete documents.
3-10 weeksThe documented range bay.in tracks from real cases, wider than most published corridors. See the timeline reality analysis.
6-12 weeksPeak season, where application volume and slow institutional replies stack. Several guides put the same period at up to three months.
3-20 weeksThe widest published corridor, paired with advice to start 4-5 months before the application deadline.
Published claims, grouped, narrowest to widest. Sources: official APS India communications plus major study portals, agency guides, and university blogs, checked July 2026. Where two sources state the same period differently, the wider bound is shown.

What applicants report

This chart is built from verified community submissions: the time from APS India receiving complete documents to the digital certificate being issued. It updates as new reports are verified. Right now the dataset is in its collection phase, and every early submission carries outsized weight.

Reported processing times by week, from documents received to certificate issued.

How to read this page

Structural reading

Anecdotes optimize for the exceptional case: the 18-day success story travels further than the 9-week wait. A distribution does the opposite. It weights every report equally and shows where the mass actually sits. That is the only version of "how long does APS take" you can responsibly build a timeline on.

Add your timeline

If you hold your APS certificate, your data point makes this page better for the next applicant. Two dates are enough: when your complete documents reached APS India, and when the digital certificate arrived. The form is just below. Every submission is checked for plausibility before it enters the dataset; nothing is published automatically.

Methodology
Measured interval: complete documents received by APS India to digital certificate issued. Note that this is not the same as the interval from the day you applied, which is what most posted timelines count. Sources: the submission form on this page, plus publicly posted reports that state both dates; each entry is plausibility-checked and deduplicated before inclusion. Summary statistics and the distribution are shown from five reports onward; below that only the individual cases appear, because a median or a histogram built on four cases is noise. Published-claims layer: official APS India communications and major study portals, agency guides, and university blogs, checked July 2026. Verify before you rely on this
Community data describes past cases, not your case. Processing times are set by APS India and change with volume and season. Always plan against official APS India guidance and your university's deadlines, and treat this tracker as context, not a commitment.
